Read and Write won the local Hero Award!

The Read and Write Literacy Programme was one of the October 2007 winners in the Nedbank Local Heroes campaign.

Being an NPO, R.A.W. relies on funding from various sources to sustain it and according to RAW’s director Roxanne Khan, “This is a real struggle to keep the programme alive.”

The Nedbank Local Heroes initiative is about giving ordinary South Africans the opportunity to give back to their respective communities and thus become local heroes. Certainly the work that Roxanne and her R.A.W. volunteers do must be worthy of “LOCAL HERO” status.

In June 24th 2008 Read and Write received a literacy award for

“outstanding intervention, contribution and training of literacy skills”
